Some notes that may help with creating articles for tournaments:

1963 "Australian professional snooker championship"

• Warren Simpson, Newton Gahan and Eddie Charlton "are playing for the professional title ... against four leading amateurs" (Frank Harris, Dennis Robinson, Ron Wright, Alan McDonald.) From what I can gather from your quoted sources is that the 3 professionals played matches against everyone else (so 6 matches each) whilst the amateurs only played against the professionals (making 3 matches), which is probably why the amateur 'title' was decided on frames won, rather than matches won. I can't find any sources providing any results or information on any of the amateurs playing each other.

The Gahan-Charlton 'playoff' was most likely known as an "elimination final" as the title appears to have been decided using the Page 3-team playoff system, although I have read that these pre-Final ties can also be called the Major Semi-final and Minor Semi-final

1964 Australian Professional Snooker Championship

Based on newspaper sources I have located, this appears to be a similar format to the previous year. 6 player round robin (Norman Squire, Eddie Charlton, Warren Simpson, Horace Lindrum, Alan McDonald and Newton Gahan) - each match over 3 frames. Round robin phase appears to have been decided on frames won and lost (reported tables make no mention of matches won or lost). 2nd and 3rd placed players then played-off, in a best-of-3 frame match, to meet the round robin winner in the final, in another best-of-3 frame match.

Based on the final group table and the results found so far, it would suggest that the 'unknown' results were either:

• Warren Simpson 1 Eddie Charlton 2, Eddie Charlton 1 Alan McDonald 2, Warren Simpson 3 Alan McDonald 0

• Eddie Charlton v Warren Simpson (best-of-3 frames). Winner plays Norman Squire in the final. (Sydney Morning Herald, 14 Oct 1964, Page 20)

As this tournament was played at Sutherland United Services Club, Sydney, I believe that this relates to the 1964 (2) tournament shown on Chris Turner's Snooker Archive website (see ref link 1 in the article). If this is correct, then we must assume that Eddie Charlton beat Warren Simpson, but then lost to Norman Squire in the final (I can't find any reference to the score in the Sydney Morning Herald) Steveflan (talk) 15:19, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Seventies events

Some notes that may help with creating articles for tournaments:

1970 Australian Professional Snooker Championship

• There were seven competitors in total (Eddie Charlton, Newton Gahan, Rex King, Allan McDonald, Paddy Morgan, Warren Simpson and Norman Squire.
• The 1970 championship also doubled as a qualifier for the 1971 World Snooker Championship, with the top two players set to receive invitations to the Round Robin stage.
• About midway through the championship, the qualifying rules were amended so that now, the top four players would qualify for the World Snooker Championship instead of the original two.
• Despite matches in previous editions of the Australian Professional Snooker Championship being best-of-9 frames, at the most, the World Championship qualifying rules meant that, for this edition, matches had to be, at a minimum, best-of-21 frames
• All 21 frames were played in each match, and the final group table was decided on most wins and then most frames won. This meant that each player would play 126 frames in total.
• Eddie Charlton won all 6 of his matches (winning exactly 100 frames) to qualify as Australian Professional Snooker champion.
• Warren Simpson, Norman Squire and Paddy Morgan also qualified with 4 wins each (Simpson won 71 frames, Squire 70 and Morgan 64)
• Allan McDonald was fifth with 2 victories from his 6 matches, Rex King was next with just 1 victory and Newton Gahan finished bottom of the final group table having failed to win a single match.
