[edit]The page name for this topic is not clear. ALP NSW, or Australian Labor Party (NSW) or NSW Labor all mean the same thing in 2012, and having an historical page caused me confusion, to which I tried to fix. Not going to get into wiki wars with someone who spends a lot of time editing (unlike me), but someone else should have a crack.AlexinaDuel (talk) 13:38, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed that there needs to be a page on the NSW branch of the ALP now, with disambiguation from this page. Suggest raising the issue at WP:AWNB or WT:AUP. Frickeg (talk) 23:13, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Proposed merge
[edit]It's not really correct to treat this as a new organisation as the article currently does. What happened was the NSW branch was disaffiliated from the federal party and then eventually re-affiliated; it never ceased to exist. This is why the federal executive had to form its own new branch in NSW. The content of this article is (or should be) covered by Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch)#Lang era and Lang Labor. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 16:18, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support as article creator. Neither the FLP nor the NSW ALP articles existed when this article was created. Now that they do, this material is more sensibly covered within the articles listed above (although the redirect will need to be maintained so that links from election boxes, etc., go straight to the appropriate section). Note that this does not apply to the second or third Lang Labor parties. Frickeg (talk) 23:26, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Essentially the same topic about Lang vs Federal Labor. The name for this article "Australian Labor Party (NSW)" is to too confusing even with the clarification note at the top of the page. In fact, Australian Labor Party split of 1931 should also be merged into Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch)#Lang era. 07:13, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
- I have undone your merges here, which are not what is supported above; in fact I explicitly say in my comment that I do not support merging the 1940 version into any other article. Merging the 1931 split article into Lang Labor would be completely inappropriate, as the 1931 split was much wider than the NSW Lang/Federal split (incorporating the Lyons split, and some incredibly complicated stuff in SA). Frickeg (talk) 08:56, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
- I have undone your undos except for 1931 split article, in which I agree with you. I merged the rest as per WP:MERGEREASON because they have almost duplicated content, with the same scope about Lang defecting from the federal ALP. If you disagree, we can keep Lang Labor as it is or as a main article because everything is chronological and is the summary of the entire Lang history.
