The proceedings in the studio were also halted, with the show's production staff being immediately fired and the stunned studio audience being told by security to go home. - This sounds dubious, considering most television programs are recorded in advance of their screening date. Can anybody confirm this? I don't believe it to be true. Firstly, it was only TCN-9 that pulled the plug after 30 minutes. GTV-9 ran the program until the last commercial break (about 9.20pm) and then went into "Cheers" instead of the last segment of the program. And regional affiliates (eg. VIC-TV) ran the one-hour (not 90 minutes) program in full as it was still going out on the Nine Network feed. --Andjb 13:39, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Query

The article implies both that the show went to black and never came back, and that it never resumed after a commercial break. Was the sitation unique in Melbourne, or did it go to black everywhere, or to an advert everywhere? Article text is below. Asa01 03:18, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The studio operators complied, and the show immediately pulled the plug and went to a black screen saying the network had "technical difficulties" (in Melbourne, the show went to a commercial and never came back), with two reruns of Cheers filling the show's remaining air time.

Cheers or Married with Children?

On this page it says that it was Married with Children. On the List_of_television_shows_canceled_after_one_episode page it says it was Cheers. Which was it?

Married with Children! I remember it exactly, the show was Married with Children, two episodes back to back, and not Cheers. Unless, likely, different states aired different fill-in programs (MWT here in Vic). MWT aired on Channel 9 at that time. 08:30, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Odd

Not one sentence? Try reading the article, the first paragraph contains "Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos depicted videos of sexual situations and other sexually explicit content."

Gentlemen, you seem to forget that the Internet isn't located in your back yard and hence 'sexually explicit' has a wide variaty of meanings to different people. Actually not all the content was sexual, unless eating maggots is your thing. I'm not sure how to best word it, other gross acts, might do. There was embarrasing or indecent situations, like the girl revealing her knickers on the tyre bridge that are not really in the sexual category and the donkey or seal's member which isn't kinky, just typically not shown on tv. - Shiftchange (talk) 23:11, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Written by Doug Mulray?

I must say that this article is immeasurably better than the last time I read it (a number of years ago). However, I still see one glaring fault - and not a fault of any of the editors. It is claimed that the host of the show - Doug Mulray - wrote all his lines himself. And this is referenced to an article in a Sydney newspaper. If that is true, then it makes me wonder what I and two other writers were doing sitting in our office at Channel 9 and banging away at two computers and one typewriter (one of us was a bit of a luddite - or maybe a technophobe, not sure which). I know that having first-hand experience of the production makes me ineligible to actually change the article. As to "Written by Doug Mulray" he would always add to, edit and improvise from scripts but he was never much for the sitting down and typing. It's a long time ago but I remember both the recording and the night it aired fairly well. Firstly, 9 came to us desperate to use all these silly, smutty videos that people had sent in - 'twas not our idea. Secondly, nobody was fired; in fact, after the recording we were treated to a salubrious and drunken lunch in the Channel 9 boardroom, Willoughby. We (I) did, however, employ a fart cushion under the pompous General Manager which resulted in some loud voices and residual ill-feeling. Furthermore, Doug was out of the country when it aired and knew nothing of the brouhaha until I got through on the coconut telegraph and gave him the "only man pulled off by Kerry Packer on Australian TV" line which he said to the mass of press at the airport upon return on the next day or so; although it may have been repeated on the radio show. Firings?

As someone involved in the production of this show (employed by Channel 9 before, during and after this show's production) I can guarantee that no one involved in its production was "fired". To the best of my knowledge, two people were yelled at. Doug Mulray himself was not barred by the network for life....or even for a much shorter period of time. None of these claims are backed up by independent sources.
