The Austral, run at the MCG in 1887, claims to be the oldest in the world. The Westral, first run in Coolgardie in 1887, claims to be the oldest in Australia. Both are still run today. So which is older, the Austral or the Westral? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.150.54.43 (talk) 16:05, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Women's race - inaugural race was in 2000; but I don't have women's results (for a handicap race) for 2003, 2008, or 2009. e.g. for 2003 on the CyclingNews website there's not much in the way of results. Maybe archive.org has an older page that's not on the web now ... cycling.org.au isn't much good in the archive for this result.
Wonder if I should include the female winner if there was only a scratch race that year e.g. Tess Downing 2008
Westral and Austral both started in 1887, but Westral has not been very continuous e.g. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/95624585 and https://thewest.com.au/news/king-gets-back-on-track-after-games-setback-ng-ya-256926 says 2014 was 66th running of race; if it had been continuous that would have been the 128th edition. Austral has 1913-20 and 1929-36 gaps.
