Real name

If we can find his real name, we should work it into the article and use it where more appropriate than his stage name --Improv 18:56, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

I thought that, but in my sifting around various places, I have never found his name. May say in his books, but I am yet to get them. It does seem odd to refer to him as 'Voltaire' when talking about his animation and stuff... J Milburn 19:40, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

He teaches at the School of Visual Arts according to the article. If you go to [1] you will see a voltaire listed their. If you go through that link, youll get to : [2]. Which reveals his name as being Roy Hernandez. Truth Sifter 03:52, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

His real last name is Hernandez, based on a dedication to his father in Chi-Chian.

There is a Yahoo group dedicated to Voltaire where he actively posts. At one point, someone posted Voltaire's real name on there and Voltaire was really, really upset. I'm not sure if that name can still be found in the group or if the post was deleted. Kevin143 04:32, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

It is true, I registered there and tried to put a name and link but someone keeps changing it because it requires registration. However, there is proof right in that post that it is his real name and we should find someway to make use of that information and incorporate into this article or its just going to sit there with that "citation needed" label. Just register, go to search messages, and search for "Aurelio" and sure enough there is is his post. A Yahoo group is not a reliable primary source and links that require registration do not make good wikipedia links, especialy when in addition to registration with yahoo, a membership with that specific group is required.

In his book Oh My Goth he makes a whimsical reference to poser goths changing their name. A specific change from Bernie Weinstein to Voltaire is mentioned. The same name is also mentioned in The Vampire Club. Might mean something. Worth mentioning? 193.77.58.93

Voltaire himself has stated many times that Bernie Weinstein is not his real name, it was the nerdiest name he could come up with for the song Vampire Club. I also think it is best not to mess with posting his real name, as this topic infuriates him as demonstrated on the yahoo group. Hi! I run that Yahoo! site. Yes, his "real" name has been posted there... or I should say more accurately "full name". Please don't post his full name on this site. His name really is Voltaire... he wants to be called simply "Voltaire"... the whole topic pisses him off, so why not just let it go?

We can't just let information not be added to the article, simply because the person the article is about does not want it there, if we can source it. Allowing people to dictate what is in their own articles would create a biased encyclopedia. However, until we can get a better source, nothing will be placed in the article. Please do not delete my posts. Now people do not even know what you are responding too. To verify what a real name is, its what your registered under in the government. A "alias" is what people make up on the spot; if we operated on these "alias" in would be chaos. So while its great to have an alias as a stage name, its the right of any citizen to know the registered name of any other citizen. That is why we are able to go look it up in the records. Now while Voltaire does wish to keep his real name a secret, its something that will be confronted if you perform live shows. The point I was trying to make was that he has already confronted it and "come out". Now all you are doing it is making it "private knowledge" for a few. I think that is one reason some people seem to be almost "annoyingly" persistant when not even being able to know the name of someone; because its something that we are normally entitled too. The point as to the morals or ethics of this are past, however. He has come out with it and it is public knowledge on his own actions. His name is Aurelio Hernandez, and please do not vandalize my post again. I like Voltaire as much as the next guy, but I think its unfair that people who are not signed up in your yahoo group can not know this knowledge. My intent is not to post it on the wikipedia article, as it has already been established it is not citable a long time ago. But if I can settle this issue and give people an idea of where to start, I shall.

Now, let's not turn this into a philosophical/legal debate. If we have a good source on Voltaire's 'real' name, then we can place it in the article. The best source that exists is the first issue of Voltaire's comic Chi-Chian. He dedicates it to his father with the last name Hernandez. I think that is a valid source and confirmation of Voltaire's last name. Kevin143 09:13, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

People do not always share the same name with their parents. In the comics, he signs his name as Voltaire, not Hernandez. Amittedly, it almost certainly is his surname, but should not be included. J Milburn 10:38, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Name

Voltaire refuses to explain why he chose to name himself after the original Voltaire, and also refuses to reveal his real name, even joking that Voltaire is his real name. There have been hints at his real name in his books- for instance, he talks about a boy named 'Bernie Weinstein' who changes his name to Voltaire in What is Goth? This same name is mentioned in his song 'The Vampire Club'. Voltaire states that that is not his name, and that it is simply a running joke- Bernie Weinstein is meant to represent many of the people he has met in the goth scene.

I gave him a link to the article on MySpace. Voltaire says that we shouldn't beleive everything we read.

I'm guessing he's using Roy Hernandez as a bogus name at the academy. I'm not sure whether to edit the article, though.
