Arrested/Executed due to Prostyletizing?
[edit]The article does not make it clear why he was first arrested and then executed -- was it due to his work as a missionary?--Jrm2007 (talk) 08:37, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
I think Qing code article 77 shall be quoted
[edit]Qing Code [[1]] Article 77 may suggest why he was "servely beaten" and put into a cage. 77.00 - 2若僧道不给度牒私自簪薙者杖八十...寺观住持及受业师私度者与同罪并还俗[入籍当差] If a monk or a taois was admitted without a government issued permit, shall be flogged 80 strokes. The chief of the organization and the mentor who gives the admission shall receive the same punishment and force to resume secular life. 77.02 僧道犯罪该还俗者查发各原籍安插若仍于原寺观庵院或他寺观庵院潜住者并枷号一个月照旧还俗 Monk or taoist who was guilty and was asked to resume secular life, shall be sent back to origin domicile. If he remains to the original organization or hide in some other religion organization, shall be put with 立枷or枷项 for 1 month and force to resume secular life. 115.195.171.24 (talk) 18:37, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Chen Xiao115.195.171.24
- This is WP:OR unless one can find the legal code was cited by Qing officials involved with the case. A Catholic Father is neither a monk nor a Taoist, so it’s not clear why the legal code would apply. In addition, since he was French, extraterrestrials applied to him per treaty signed by Qing court. —Happyseeu (talk) 13:31, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
