Mock Auction

Need introduction to the functions of auction
I think the article would be improved with a paragraph letting the reader know the benefits of auctions as a way to buy and sell goods. The article contrasts auctions with set price sales and barter, but doesn't give a sense of why a buyer or seller (or the market overall) would prefer an auction to the alternatives. That is, the article would be helped with a non-technical description of how auctions lead to efficient exchanges (or reveal the worth of an object at auction).
