Current AG
[edit]The CIA World Factbook says the current AG is 'Asipeli 'Aminiasi Kefu, last updated January 2011. However, I can't find any news articles that support this, and I've found mistakes in the CIA World Factbook before. This is the history:
- June 2009: Tonga Gov't Press Release - Kefu is appointed Deputy Attorney General [1]
- November 2010: Tonga holds a general election
- December 21, 2010: Tonga Gov't Press Release - "Tonga's Acting Attorney General, Mr. Maamaloa Fotofili" [2]
- January 17, 2011: parliament passes a bill allowing for the appointment of an Interim Attorney General, "the Deputy PM is also Justice Minister and Acting Attorney General"[3] (Samiu Vaipulu)
- January 31, 2011: Tonga Gov't Press Release - "‘Aminiasi Kefu, Solicitor General"[4]
- June 2, 2011: Throne Speech - "The new Legislation will grant powers to the King, on the advice of the Lord Prime Minister, to appoint a temporary Lord Chancellor and a temporary Attorney General"[5]
- June 28, 2011: Radio New Zealand news clip - "Tonga’s acting Attorney-General and Deputy Prime-Minister Samiu Vaipulu"[6]
...so it looks like Kefu is the Solicitor General, and they still don't have an AG, that Samiu Vaipulu is still Acting AG, as well as Justice Minister and Deputy PM... unless someone else can find other info?? Dracunculus (talk) 00:58, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. It does seem as if the CIA website failed to correct that in its update. Good work establishing the timeline! Aridd (talk) 08:15, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Just FYI - I find errors in the CIA website all the time :) Dracunculus (talk) 20:12, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
