Attenborough Crossing Shunt Frame signalbox survived till at least the early 1980s as a Crossing-Keeper's box only and operated the level crossing and a slot release to Trent Power Signalbox. Conversion from a block-post operated by a Signalman to a Crossing Box with associated sidings would have occured during the commissioning of the Trent Power Signalling scheme around 1969. When the crossing was converted to CCTV operation possibly around 1982-83 the lower, brick-half of the signalbox was retained as a locking room and it received a "flat" roof after the upper wooden superstructure was demolished.
Connection with the Chilwell Ordnance Depot (COD)
[edit]I am surprised there is no mention of the connection with the COD (as opposed to Chetwyn Barracks). For some years, the signs on the platform included a comment along the lines of 'For Chilwell Ordnance Depot'. I think I am correct in thinking that that there was a theory that the station's proximity to the COD was probably one of the reasons why the station stayed open immediately post-Beeching.
