[edit]Anyone have *any* external links on this? I've never heard of "Olympic Walking" before, and I can't imagine walking an 8-minute mile... Dean 18:46, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've added the IAAF official results page. Racewalking has been part of the Olympic programme since 1908 (though it wasn't held at the 1924 or 1928 editions). As for the speed involved, racewalkers can get over 10 miles per hour. The record for 20 kilometres is 1:17:21[1], or about 6.2 minutes per mile on average over more than 12 miles. It's quite something to watch, I'd recommend taking a look next time you have a chance—at the very least, there should be some coverage of the racewalking at the 2008 Summer Olympics. -- Jonel | Speak 23:27, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
