Huh?
[edit]"Athabasca is famous for a farmer who, about 100 years ago, trained two moose to pull plows like farm animals. People came from far around to see these plowing moose. Unfortunately, someone fed one of the moose a frozen potato and it died. The other moose died of loneliness shortly thereafter." This sounds utterly fake to me... But I'm not completely sure. A google search returns only this page and unrelated stuff so I'll remove it and if it's true I'm sorry Furius (talk) 10:32, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
This one is true, as the local historical society has a whole display about it set up on main street. Some day, I'll put that back up, and cite the display as my source. Mark (talk) 15:35, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- This is factual, here is a link with the photo: Moose team- Canadian History Bits and Bites | Just another Day on the Farm, cite Photograph J.H. Gano; Mrs. L. Lyons fonds, from the town archives. There is also a mural downtown. JoannaEfrafa (talk) 23:30, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Education
[edit]"The town is home to Athabasca University, a major centre for distance education and the town's largest employer."

Remove: Link 20 ( "AUPE News - Alberta Union of Provincial Employees". March 16, 2016. Retrieved July 4, 2017.) no longer works.
Remove: "largest employer" replace with "one of the town's largest employers"-- this is not verified. Athabasca University is likely only one of the the large employers in town. See: 2022 article that AU plans to employ 277 in town, see also "number of employees that work in the Athabasca region full time" vs. Town webpage 1991 "1991 - In 1991 Alberta Pacific Forest Industries (ALPAC) began construction in the Athabasca County and officially opened in September 1993. AL-PAC employs close to 1,100 employees and contractors." Have been unable to find official numbers on AL-PAC employees in the region.
