A fact from Atarot appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 12 November 2007. The text of the entry was as follows:
|
Edit request to add details of industrial park as source of international boycott movements.
[edit]Can this text, or similar, be added to this page. It is relevant, and adds important context about the settlement. If it is not permitted I would like to know what is needed for it to become an approved edit.
Due to the settlement being labelled as illegal under international law, it has become as source of controversy due to the many companies that operate within the Atarot Industrial Park. As a result, many of these companies have been targeted by boycotts, most notably by the BDS Movement.[1] 2.98.133.55 (talk) 15:41, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- I was the person who removed your edit so I'll try to respond. The first thing is to have a look at WP:EDITXY if you haven't done so already. Following that guide is a good way to ensure that edit requests are accepted. As for your proposed edit, there are a few issues. Firstly, think about the editorial voice, the voice saying things like "it has become as source of controversy" etc. Where is that voice coming from? Who is it? For Wikipedia, it should be a reliable source rather than your voice. Secondly the source doesn't support the statements. It's a BDS report about a specific instance, General Mills pulling out. Lastly, activist organizations are not great sources from Wikipedia's perspective for unattributed statements of fact. They are good for the views of the organization that can be attributed to them. There may be better sources out there, reporting that has looked at the impact of boycotts on companies in the park. It would probably be better to base an edit request on those, if you can find them. Sean.hoyland (talk) 16:01, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
