Vandalism?

Were edits by 68.38.141.233 really vandalism? It lacked precision but was more worth rewriting than reverting in my opinion... Fafner 06:55, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • For your information, they were vandalism. --Ryanasaurus007 22:54, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Possiblity of splitting up intomation into different entries?

Theres plenty of differences between the Manga and the 3 Astro animes. Shouldnt we split the manga and the 3 animes apart along with character explainations?

yes I believe that it should be split in to two different categories. for manga and the animes. also there should be some reference to the 3rd anime the 50 episode series that Sony pictures television did in 2004. even though only 21 aired in America.

Astro's Boy's Themes

How does Astro Boy explore issues of racism, prejudice, true heroism, and loss. Anyone know?

Racism is essentially explored by the idea that robots are different from humans, and because of that make humans afraid of them. In a particular episode for example (Frankenstein), an experimental robot is accidentally fred and begins wreaking havoc. As a result, every robots in the country are switched off, including Atomu/Astro, the hero.

Astroboy's Birthday

At one point it is referred to as being April 7th and another place it is April 6th. What day is it?

It is the 7th. Obviously a small error had slipped in the article, I corrected it ;-)

Astroboy & Megaman

I think its pretty obvious that Astroboy influenced the creation of Megaman, as the two share many traits and themes. However, I am looking for proof. The creators of Megaman has to have mentioned something like this in the past... Anyone have something?

A (very) quick search on Google redirected me to this article (almost at the end, search "astro"). Not very strong information, but maybe a start... Fafner 07:34, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Redirect Astro Boy here

I'm currently going through the 'What links here' portion on Astro Boy and (hopefully) redirecting the links to the appropriate article instead of the dab page. What I'm noticing that a vast majority of the links (over 90%) should be directed here. I'm going to continue 'cleaning' the 'What links here' so the links that should be pointing to the other articles are pointing correctly, but what are your thoughts on making Astro Boy a redirect to this article and having the the disambiguous page be Astro Boy (disambiguation)? --Bobblehead 19:44, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Make sense to me, making Astro Boy a straight DAB doesn't make sense to me, since all Astro Boy subjects and pages derive from the original manga and TV series. Btw, the Astro Boy film still seems to be stalling after years, so it's probably best it stays off the pages until real confirmation comes out that it is really getting made. --SevereTireDamage 20:28, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Finished cleaning the 'What links here' for Astro Boy so will wait a few more days on making it a redirect here, just in case someone objects. I noticed the film's article got the axe, so went back through and removed references of it. Downside is that I did make 1 link to the article, so somewhere out there is a dead link pointing to Astro Boy (film). --Bobblehead 21:00, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, since we're already discussing it, I thought I'd put in my two cents. Currently, the Astro Boy pages are awkardly placed and named. For instance, using (1960s) and (1980s) as disambiguation modifiers is pretty lame. The 80s series should be should be named Astro Boy (1982), the same way Astro Boy (2003) is.

This page (1960s) was previously named Astro Boy (no modifier) until someone moved it to this page and made it into a DAB. Also, a stubby page with little content at Astro Boy (character) was merged into this article, which made sense - when this article was the being used as the umbrella article for all Astro Boy pages. So, it makes even less sense to name this page Astro boy (1962) or whatever, since this is the one main Astro Boy page that describes the character and his overall history. Another option is splitting the manga and anime off into their own page or pages.

Thoughts? --SevereTireDamage 12:05, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

I went ahead and changed the disambiguation to Astro Boy (disambiguation) and pointed Astro Boy and most of its variants to here. As for moving this article to Astro Boy without a modifier. I'm a little ambivalent on that. If anything the Astro Boy 2003 article is misnamed because it gives the impression that the series only ran for 1 year. I would also think there is enough information to make a (character) and (manga) article. That way you could name the anime series something like Astro Boy (anime), Astro Boy (2nd anime), and Astro Boy (3rd anime). Granted, I don't like that wording, but just throwing a thought out. I just don't think naming the 2nd and 3rd series after the year the premiered works. --Bobblehead 21:04, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't make sense to have two pages devoted to Astro Boy. The other one is quite useless. It even makes less sense to use the concept of "franchise", since this may be true for merchandising or toys, as it is for any other character, but as a product I think the 2009 US marketed movie is the first actual example of a "franchise", in some way unrelated with the patronage of Tezuka Productions. I would remove the other page and keep this one as the main page. The "disambiguation" page is not needed. On the contrary, it may make sense to have separate pages devoted to the manga and the various animated series, as we have one for the imagi movie, which is a secondary product compared to the original Tezuka productions. --Piccic 15:22, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Split Articles?

For convenience sake, i suggest that the Manga Chapters, Episode List, Episode Summary, and Characters sections be moved to their own pages. They just make the page too long in my opinion..

Rituel 06:58, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I agree, since 69.47.33.41 has been adding all that information (much of which borders on being fancruft) the article has got out of hand. Psychonaut3000 20:32, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

The live action movie/series should be made into a separate category/-ries too. --TEcHNOpl 23:40, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

This article is one of thousands on Wikipedia that have a link to YouTube in it. Based on the External links policy, most of these should probably be removed. I'm putting this message here, on this talk page, to request the regular editors take a look at the link and make sure it doesn't violate policy. In short: 1. 99% of the time YouTube should not be used as a source. 2. We must not link to material that violates someones copyright. If you are not sure if the link on this article should be removed or you would like to help spread this message contact us on this page. Thanks, ---J.S (t|c) 03:18, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Incomplete

Incompleteness warning. As noted in http://www.astroboy-online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3111 and other places on the internet, the first TV version of Astro Boy was not the 1963 animated series, but a live-action series produced in the late 1950s' for Japanese TV.72.94.96.7 02:50, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Likewise, there is no mention whatsoever of either the subsequent TV series, the first made in the 1980s, the second in the 2000s. Ravenclaw (talk) 03:02, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Edited the location of the machine guns. They were obviously not located in his rectum - in fact my Asstro-Boy t-shirt says hips -- ?

Minor vandalism

I noticed a short insulting and partial line just after the intro of the article. Apparently, some smartass decided it was funny to comment that the series sucks in the article 70.243.154.57 06:47, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Trivia

I think this article is lacking some trivial trivia, I strongly remember the series Freakazoid! had a gag of Astroboy as Freakazoid's favorite anime, except it was parodied as something else, I forgot what it was called in the show. 70.243.154.57 06:51, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Curtosity to Discussion section

I have noticed that the Astro Boy page, a page that represents one of Osamu "God of Manga" Tezuka's greatest and most successful works, is being treated rather poorly. The content from the serious contributors is good, but I am seeing a rash of vandalism on the page, and also seeing some rather harsh words being said to those who comment here on the Discussion page.

While I agree that the Discussion section is not meant to be used for Forums, I think the comments made to those that are was very uncalled for.

I would like to get input from those that contribute here to Astro Boy and its related pages as to what needs to be done and how to properly structure it all. There are already a number of pages for Astro boy:

I think there needs to be a separate page for, say:

and leave the main page for the source material of everything Astro Boy: The manga. Of course the manga can connect to the other pages, but since the manga came first, I think that should be the primary emphasis.

Any comments?

Film?

How are they going to do a CGI film of Astro Boy when his hair shifts constantly as he turns his head? The two 'spikes' are always at the top and bottom of the amount of his hair that's visible, so if it's an aerial shot theyre at his sides, if he's facing left theyre at the top left and bottom right, vice versa, etc..

Evil twin brother

No mention of Atlas?? I thought there were real fans out there... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.208.105.243 (talk) 13:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

See Astro Boy (1980 TV series) where Atlas was first introduced. The way the Astro Boy articles are set up is a bit confusing. They could probably stand being reworked. VMS Mosaic (talk) 19:30, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
