List

The list of familymembers is somewhat confusing. We need a consistent and fairly obvious (to the reader) numbering or listing system so it can be clearly seen who is the son of whom etc. - Matthew238 02:38, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Page name

I moved this page back to Astor family from The Astors. "The Astors" goes against accepted practice, which is evident by visiting Category:American families. — BrianSmithson 22:01, 8 March 2006 (UTC) I dont know where to put this but there seems to be a perpetuated mistake that Sarah Todd wife of JJ Astor came with him from Germany, this is not correct she was of Scottish descent and he met and married her in the USA.

Astor and Astoria Names Around the US

Why is it assumed that any of these names around the country have anything to do with this particular family. They were NYC real estate speculators not US real estate speculators. That is a tremendous assumption to make that the naming of these town and locales (outside of NYC) had anything to do with this particular family. If you do that, you are rewriting history - just not as it occurred... Stevenmitchell 13:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

But a lot of these places around the U.S. were named after the Astors. - Matthew238 22:21, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

our family, not only owned large portion,s of the us, but we still do, and we are property speculator,s in several place,s in the us and in europe as well, our family were heavily involved in german matters before the second world war, including financial help, this will be told mainly in my book about my family, which i am writing —Preceding unsigned comment added by Victoria astor (talkcontribs) 00:52, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Significant?

Isn't that rather a matter of opinion? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.227.189.93 (talk) 04:14, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

reines Unsinn

it doesn't make sense to say angloamerican family of german descent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.163.22.139 (talk) 07:41, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes it does!92.227.189.93 (talk) 04:18, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Non US places

There is a square named after the Astors in Budapest as well. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astoria_%28Budapest%29 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.111.96.90 (talk) 11:29, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Article Issues

  • I've placed a template at the top of this article listing several issues that need to be rectified. The first, is the obvious lack of any references for any of the material in this article (verily, an issue since Jan 2009). Second, the need for expansion of the article beyond the present content. The first couple sections seem very abridged and then they lead into large -bulleted- lists of the family tree. Hence, I have placed the lists, copyedit, and expand templates on the main page as well.
  • I would recommend that someone overhaul this article and find sources for the content that is present. I would also recommend deleting the lists in the "Bloodline" section or, at least, have it put into a proper embedded list.

References

  • Although another editor has made significant contributions to the page, it is still largely devoid of reference material. I've added the refimprove tag to the article, several fact templates, and an unreferenced tag to the bloodline section (it doesn't have a single citation).bwmcmaste (talk) 01:12, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Ward Confusion?

Hello,

When looking at the article for Samuel Cutler Ward, it says he was the husband of William Backhouse Astor, Sr.'s daughter Emily Astor. Yet this article says that Samuel Cutler Ward's grandfather Samuel Ward, Jr. was her husband. I am not sure which to go with.

Anglo American

Anglo American of German descent? That doesn't make sense. It should be one or the other.

Definitely not, how much more of a posh Anglo/American (or transatlantic) can you get than having German ancestry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.39.10.81 (talk) 20:09, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

What is hidden from history is that this family has Jewish blood, like Rockerfeller/Rothschilds etc etc —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.202.67.142 (talk) 13:56, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

How utterly inappropriate. Jonathan f1 (talk) 23:23, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

They are not Anglo-American, not German either. They a Jewish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.202.67.142 (talk) 13:58, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

I thought I'd seen this name before. The family was involved in the disgusting opium trade in the 1800's. What a lovely way to become rich. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.202.67.142 (talk) 14:08, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Jewish is defently correct! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.246.212.48 (talk) 00:12, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 23 December 2022

The families currently listed in connection to the Astor family are false. The list should read as follows; Aldrich, Webster, Rockefeller, Rothschild, and Romanov. I would highly appreciate this being fixed. Thank you Astoriaaldrich (talk) 22:00, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

Not done on the contrary, none of the names you've listed have any discernible connections to the Astors. The ones in infobox come from how members of those families married people from this one. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 22:07, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
Wait, I forgot about how Margaret Livingston Chanler married Richard Aldrich, but it's moot when the Aldrich family doesn't have or warrant a separate page anyway. We should stick to families with their own articles, meaning the Websters couldn't be listed either. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 23:58, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

How the Astor’s made their wealth

I saw a comment replying to my connected families list name. The current listed on the page are only families that wished we associated with them. We do not. That needs to be fixed. The earliest Astors made their wealth through profiting from the drug trade (ie; heroine). As well as the fur trade. Astoria fort being the first base of the Astor fur trading business for which I am named after. The Astor’s were also landlords. Ones who lacked empathy and cared only to fund their own lavish lives. The lower generations grew greedy and put themselves above others. Not to mention the indentity thefts many suffered from their carelessness and substance indulgences.
