Water logged Cover
[edit]The intro says ' coal seams 30 metres (98 ft) underneath the peat bog '. This is misleading . The coal measures are covered by the bog. The coal measires are some hundreds of metres thick. They are made up of layers of rock, mainly shales some sandstones and a few coal seams of up to three or four meters thick. I am not familiar with the district but from memory the attractive seams were deep and steeply inclined, these were among the deepest workings in britain. The shafts were probably around seven or eight hundred yards deep. Shaft sinking was particularly difficult due to the water. ... mikeL 30-11-09 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.238.234.205 (talk) 22:25, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
