Misleading Content
[edit]This article appears to have been subject to online vandalism. Evidence includes edits that claimed the island belonged to IIOT (India Indian Ocean Territory) - a fictitious entity. Moreover, the timezone was changed from Seychelles to Indian timezone. Also, it was claimed that the airport on the island was ′owned' by India. These propaganda-type edits have been removed as of March 13, 2018. We request Wikipedia readers to be wary of them and help us remove unverified content. -Pratikus (talk) 16:42, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

Island for military use
[edit]Hi Pratikus Please discuss your changes here. There are many WP:RS which state that the island will be developed as a military base. ([1],[2]). And the deal has been ratified by Seychelles. ([3]). Adamgerber80 (talk) 18:33, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi Adamgerber80: As you have quite correctly pointed out in the links you have cited yourself here (and as I have mentioned here already in few paras above), there is a proposal to build a joint maritime infrastructure on the Island between the two governments. The section titled 'Military' indicates that there is an existing Indian Navy base (including an airport). That is quite misleading in several ways. Let me highlight some of them: (a) There is a difference between a foreign military base and a joint maritime facility (b) This section indicates that the proposed infrastructure has been implemented whereas in reality the proposed infrastructure has been planned since 2015 but not implemented (c) This section clearly states that airport (ICAO: FSAS) belongs to the Indian Navy which according to both Wikipedia article on the airport[1] and ICAO [2]designation is not true because it is a civilian airport. Based on these easily verifiable sources, the section can be inferred to be promoting an opinion/ rumour rather than stating a fact.
- Yes the paragraph is misleading and needs to be edited but that does not mean it should be removed. I am going to reword the paragraph to reflect what the sources say. Adamgerber80 (talk) 15:41, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
- I have reworded the content to better reflect what the sources state. This should be fine now. Adamgerber80 (talk) 15:58, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi Adamgerber80: Your edit still contains significant mistakes. Here are those:
Mistake #1: Adamgerber80 states in his edit that ′the agreement has been ratified by Seychelles′. As of March 7, 2018 it has NOT been ratified by Seychelles. This is as per Adamgerber80's own citation [3]. Within this news article that you have cited, the Seychelles President has been explicitly quoted as planning to request his parliament to ratify the agreement in April 2018.
Mistake #2: Adamgerber80 states in his edit that ′In 2015, India and Seychelles signed an agreement which leased the island to India′. That is simply untrue based on Adamgerber80's own citation where the President of Seychelles is explicitly quoted as saying that “A Coast Guard facility on a section of Assomption will protect Aldabra, Astove, and Cosmoledo, and provide the security that the country urgently needs in this corner of our territory. The remainder of Assomption will be reserved for a tourism development,”. That statement means that only a part of the island will be used for the joint facility between India and Seychelles and the rest will be used for tourism. So Adamgerber80, no the entire island has not been leased to India.
Misleading content #3: The info box to the right of the section titled "Military base" is misleading and/ or incorrect. Adamgerber80 states in his edit that the airport (ICAO: FSAS) is owned and operated by India. There is no source mentioned to back up this rumour. The fact is that the airport is a civilian airport operated by a Seychelles company named IDC (http://www.idc.sc/) according to Wikipedia article on the page [4]
Hi Adamgerber80, please re-write your section to make it factual. Since, you have been persistent in promoting a particular point of view w.r.t. this article, I will elevate this within the Wikipedia community otherwise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pratikus (talk • contribs) 00:53, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Pratikus: Feel free to make the changes yourself, as long as you don't remove entire paragraphs due to small errors. Do sign your comments on the talk page with ~~~~ as it helps others to keep track of comment authors. —Gazoth (talk) 06:58, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
- Pratikus I am not here to push an agenda just to ensure that the page has what is in the sources. You are free to edit the page as long as it per the sources. I reviews your recent edits and they seem fine. To reiterate what Gazoth said, please don't remove content blankly if they have errors. Please copy-edit or fact fix them. Thanks.
