New proposed sections
[edit]I plan to make edits to this page to reflect information about either Asian American LGBTQ+ activism or Asian American environmental activism. I think the best way to do this is to create a new section on this topic, or create a section on "Types of activism" with these topics as sub-sections. I have included more about my interest in these topics and relevant references I'll be using as source material on my user page; you are welcome to give suggestions and feedback! Cat-N-Cactus (talk) 06:08, 3 October 2021 (UTC) This sounds great, I'm looking forward to reading it! Katlett (talk) 19:29, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
I'm going to add a lead and do a little organizing to help with the chronological order of the article. Katlett (talk) 19:31, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
- This is such a great idea! As the issues that Asian American activists get involved in become more diverse, I am thinking about creating a separate section to discuss each type of the movement too. Besides LGBTQ+ activism, I am also planning to include activism on women's rights, workers' rights, environmental justice, criminal justice, affirmative action and so on. [edit]On the whole, you've done an absolutely amazing job Kelly. The sections you've added in history provide some insightful detail on the development of Asian-American activism over the years. More than anything else, I would say the most important thing to flesh out would be the Characteristics of Contemporary Asian-American Activism section, as it is not a hundred percent clear to me why this needs to be a separate portion. Additionally, some of the segments under history could use stronger lead sentences that present a proper overview for what the rest of the section is going to be about. Also, some additional illustrations would be wonderful for making the historical sections feel more alive. Great work!--128.42.51.155 (talk) 01:15, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Progress
[edit]Hi, you have done an excellent revision for the current article. You have done a great job in adding new information and expanding existing sections. I am impressed by the comprehensiveness of your correction and how it seamlessly fits into the current article. Some suggestions on the referencing sides: I suggest that you might want to cite more scholarly literature when discussing a single historical event in history. This will give your article a balanced viewpoint. You could also add some images to the article, which will benefit the quality of your revision. Furthermore, please consider subdividing your current sections: Mid-to-Late 20th Century Activism. Currently, it is too long and has adverse effects on the readability of the article. These are the essential thing to consider to improve. Overall, a great job!I am looking forward to your final revision. Enjoy editing. Derek.hx08 (talk) 16:27, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
Suggestions
[edit]The existing page has done a great job of documenting Asian American activism in chronological order, listing the major social and political movements from the late nineteenth century to the present day. Although it leads the readers through the events clearly, it provides little historical context to each event, preventing the readers from understanding the greater significance of the movement to each time period. I would like to reorganize the timeline by identifying common threads among movements during the same eras and discussing their impact on and significance to the Asian American community. Moreover, the current article has a rather narrow focus on certain ethnic groups such as Chinese and Filipino Americans and fails to be representative of the whole Asian community. I would like to expand the page by including the experiences of other Asian ethnic groups like Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese and Indian Americans. In addition, I plan to extend the range of the movements to include not only anti-racism ones but also those that intersect with other important social justice issues like women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, labor rights, environmental justice, anti-imperialism and affirmative action. Furthermore, since the existing article places a heavy emphasis on historical events, I hope to draw people’s attention to the contemporary Asian American activism scene by discussing the challenges and opportunities activists encounter and how they navigate them. Finally, I want to highlight the experience of notable Asian American activists who did not gain as much recognition in the US history as other activists like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. This is important since Asians have long been lumped together as a monolithic group and individuals are mostly invisible in American history. Therefore by including the personal stories of several prominent activists, I hope to humanize Asians and allow future generations of Asian Americans to have more role models to look up to. [edit]Hi Kelly! I thought your contributions to the history sections were really comprehensive and important. I'm glad you were able to represent more nationalities than were previously there. I think this article could be improved by adding more links throughout the article and proofreading for minor grammatical errors as well as updating the lead section to focus on what is in the article. Overall, good job!Avamcclung (talk) 05:21, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
Section headers too long and contrived
[edit]I see a major contributor to the page has made a statement at the Teahouse they believed these should be revised. This seems a very good idea to me. Discussion? BusterD (talk) 00:07, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- Looking for similar examples, Chicano Movement, Civil rights movement, Civil rights movements, Black power movement might provide some guidance (and help us add some easy categories in common). BusterD (talk) 00:20, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi BusterD, thank you for your recommendations! I revised the subheadings based on the examples you provided. Please let me know if they look good to you. I made most of the changes in the History section. KellyL09 (talk) 11:34, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Important to remember that a wikipedian is always a sort of pioneer all the time; someone's always going to make changes after you're done. A person just tries to hit the center of the dart board as often as they can. Good work this semester, KellyL09. It's a pleasure to see a newcomer pick this up and thrive. Don't be shy about continuing to help. Being WP:BOLD isn't just a pillar. Having a subject matter in which you have intrinsic interest makes you valuable. I see you making efforts to absorb something of the community culture. Sometimes WikiEd students are just marking time; you look like you're getting the whole cheeseburger. If you ever need help, call on me. Again, thanks for your efforts. May your edits endure. BusterD (talk) 23:45, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
