The couple had [[Living together|lived together]] for two years under one roof without getting married, a principle which is not quite accepted in a typical conservative Sri Lankan society. It was revealed that the couple had engaged in a toxic relationship as Marasinghe has physically abused Karadana on multiple occasions.
