I removed two sources and content [1] that did not appear to be about the subject of this article. The following is more detail about the removal and a further review of sources:
Faces in the Crowd: Ashley Black (Chron.com, Apr. 28 2005) is about a 35 year old (dob approx 1970) who says she was "diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when she was 4," that her parents encouraged her to pursue gymnastics "at a young age", and she developed "osteomyelitis, a staph infection in the bone marrow, in early adulthood [...] after the birth of her second child six years ago" and founded the TANK Institute in 2003. She also says she grew up in Alabama, and has "a bachelor's and master's degree in civic and mechanical engineering from Auburn University." This source also says "It was a two-year process, getting back to being a normal person with physical therapy, pain pills, and alternative medicine". This source also says "She moved to Houston seven years ago with her three children".
I compared this both to the content in the article, as well as the PHA podcast source based on what the article subject says about herself, e.g. "Ashley developed Fasciology™ after battling her own chronic health issues, which began in her mid-twenties when she went into hospital for a routine procedure and subsequently contracted a serious bone infection."
I was also aware of 2017 reporting by Buzzfeed News, which states, "Ashley Black isn’t a doctor, licensed physical therapist, or scientist — nor does she hold a college degree."
A review of other promotional material previously removed from the article [2], e.g. 2020 Home Business Mag profile states "she was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis" and she "became a competitive gymnast in her teenage years." This profile says after "a routine hip aspiration" she "contracted a bone-eating disease", "doctors told her that walking would never again be feasible" and she then "decided to take her recovery into her own hands and soon began traveling the world, studying treatments and medicine from every corner."
Another promotional source previously removed from the article [3], e.g. 2019 IdeaMensch says "Ashley Black was born in Alabama with a debilitating disease called Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA)" and "In her mid-twenties, Ashley developed a bone-eating bacteria that almost took her life. With fierce determination, Ashley survived but was left with a severely damaged hip, pelvis, and spine. [...] Ashley traveled to India to receive custom pelvic implants." This source mentions she has three children.
A "brand partner content" source previously removed from the article [4], 2022 LA Weekly states, "Never letting her arthritic condition stop her, she continued through her childhood and young adult years into college, utilizing a system of homeopathic concoctions and remedies that allowed her to live a relatively normal life. She skillfully navigated her college years with this condition while studying engineering, joining a sorority, and holding the position of captain of the dance team." The college is not identified. This source also states, "Shortly after college and having just brought her second child into the world, Ashley underwent a scheduled hip aspiration, a routine procedure", describes a bone infection, and states, "The care of the doctors combined with her strong will was her saving grace" etc
Another promo source previously removed from the article [5], Everything PR News, published 2019, updated 2023, says "Black worked throughout college as a fitness instructor" and "Not only was Ashley Black lucky to train and learn from some of the Strongman greats, but Kazmaier showed Black early in her career how to be a dynamic and inspiring health and fitness entrepreneur" and "After college, Black worked in nutrition with one of the most well-known weight management companies in the country and continued to teach fitness classes".
The About page (Archive Feb 4, 2024) at www.ashleyblackguru.com says Black was born in "Alabama in 1972", had "Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis", was "a competitive gymnast", and at 30, "contracted, in a hospital after having a baby, a flesh-eating bacteria that would enter her bones. She spent a year recovering" and "ended up with a femur and pelvis rebuilt and was given the prognosis of a life of pain management". There is no mention of the TANK Institute or Auburn University or attending/completing college/university. Three biological children are mentioned. This webpage also says Black has "spent over two decades as a Fasciologist" and resides in Costa Rica.
