Notability
[edit]One of the reasons I would consider Rabbi Lopatin notable is his roots in the somewhat controversial Open Orthodoxy movement (https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/open-orthodoxy-the-real-issue/). I think it would be good to add mention of that to this article. TAPwiki (talk) 16:28, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Open Orthodox vs Modern Orthodox
[edit]I have not been able to locate a source in which Lopatin clearly self-identifies as "Open Orthodox." To my knowledge, open orthodox began as description of left-wing practices within Modern Orthodox Judaism. In the present Open Orthodox is only used as a label by the critics of the left-wing of Modern Orthodox Judaism to define it as a separate movement, even though the people/institutions involved are not seeking to build a new denomination of Judaism.
The term Open Orthodox should be relegated to a criticism section describing the people/institutions who have labeled Lopatin as Open Orthodox. Itsik.isserles (talk) 13:30, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
