720p HTDV Standard
[edit]I had the privilege of working for Arun when he was the director of division 1138. He was the man who really made the 720p HDTV standard happen. When Zenith approached AT&T to help build an analog HDTV system, Arun created a group of experts at Bell Labs and MIT who developed a digital HTDV system, and he got funding from Bell Labs to build a working prototype. It was pretty brave of him to go out on a limb, and the design of the system was technically excellent. I'm sure this was what led to his eventual promotion to head of Bell Labs.
