[edit]There are some highly dubious facts without citations in this article. I see that one of the sources for information is "The Ferris Conspiracy" which appears to have been written by Paul Ferris himself, so there might possibly be a conflict of interest? It is said in the current Wikipedia entry that Paul Ferris "was betrayed by Thompson, when he appeared in the witness box against him in a court case which saw Ferris convicted of gun running and sent to prison." However, Thompson died in 1993 and - according to the Edinburgh Evening News article (22nd April 2005) cited in the Wikipedia entry, it was in 1998 that Ferris was "was jailed for seven years at the Old Bailey in London for trafficking guns and explosives". No other gun running trial seems to have happened, so the current Wikipedia entry is claiming that Arthur Thompson went into a witness box and gave evidence five years after he died. Call me old-fashioned (and I am no expert on Glasgow crime) but this seems at least slightly unlikely. It does seem, though that Thompson did gave evidence in the trial at which Ferris was (wrongly) accused of killing Thompson's son. So I think 'facts' without citations in this entry need to be treated with extreme caution. I am no expert and can only go on what I read here. 12:01, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
I removed the disputed section, which seemed to refer to the trial for Thompson Jr's murder, not the gun-running trial. I also removed the lengthy charges Ferris faced, most of which were unrelated to Thompson specifically and which already appeared in the Wiki entry on Ferris. 10:14, 7 Dec 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.178.240.213 (talk)
Re "According to rumour and later newspaper reports, he did not die in his bed, but paramedics took his body there following his death.[4]" - I've read the reference for this and I read it as he was taken from his bed and died on the way to hospital, not that he died somewhere else and his body was taken to his bed. If it is the latter then we need some more info - e.g. where according to rumour did he die, or why did paramedics take his body to his bed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.134.105.77 (talk) 02:14, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, 86.134.105.77, it's been over three years and there's no citation inserted to bolster the claim that paramedics took the man's body from wherever and placed it into his bed. I think it's safe for you to edit out that head-scratching section. Wordreader (talk) 21:54, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Following the presentation of new evidence it is now common knowledge that Arthur Thompson was a super grass, infact glasgows biggest police informer for 15 years. After speaking to several high ranking police officers of the past era aswell as well-known underworld figures I have come to the conclusion that atleast 7 long term sentences were given to one time associates of Thompson in order to prolong his fading empire. What an bitter dissapointment and a sad end to what could have been a great legacy.
- Please keep in mind that "common knowledge" is not the WP way: facts must have Verifiability. Likewise, editors may not come to their own conclusions as this violates the No original research rule. Think "encyclopedic", not an "original biography" and you can't go wrong. B^) What does "super grass" mean? Does it indeed mean "informant"? In the US, the term is "stool pidgeon", though I've never looked into why. Wordreader (talk) 21:54, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Tracey Thompson
[edit]In this article Tracey Thompson, Arthur Snr daughter is said to have emigrated to the USA and is now working as a script writer. This is not true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.230.168.40 (talk) 12:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
the death of paki welch and jim goldie.
[edit]it is written that the above were killed as a result of thompson.s mother-in-law being blown-up in thompson.s car.this is wrong, it is the other way round. the welch brothers blew up the car because thompson drove their brothers van off the road and killed goldie and paki welch. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.139.200.19 (talk) 00:15, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
