Partial matches

[edit]

Re the recent revert: the purpose of a disambiguation page is to help readers find the article they want; not to fit some abstract aesthetic canon. We cannot assume that readers have the full name; and often the name that is cited elsewhere is second+last or first+second name. So it is better to include all those possibilities than to send many readers off to a wild goose chase. All the best, --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 03:21, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The manual of style is very clear (from WP:MOSDAB): "On a page called Title, do not create entries merely because Title is part of the name". None of these additional people people are known as Arthur Roberts, and are therefore unsuitable as entries on a dab page. If people really need to find such people that is what the search function of Wikipedia is for. Tassedethe (talk) 08:10, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arthur Robert and Arthur Roberts

[edit]

It may be debated whether "Arthur Robert" and "Arthur Roberts" should be the same dsiamb page, or two disamb pages linked by "see also"s. I have no opinion on the matter (there are arguments for both solutions), but either way the disamb page(s) should include partial matches too, for the readers's sake. All the best,
