Date of Birth
[edit]The 1901 census [1] lists 'him' as a 40 year old cycle manufacturer. But an 1860/1 date of birth makes him an 8 year old winner and a 12 year old entrepreneur.
Name - Arthur Markham
Age - 40
Where born - London Edgworth... Edgeware Road
Admin county - Middlesex
Civil parish - Harmondsworth
Occupation - Cycle Manufacturer
Address - 57 High Street, Longford, Middlesex
Is the census age wrong (by 10 or 20 years)? Needs a closer look at the hand-written form. Autodidactyl (talk) 08:12, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- I have viewed the handwritten census form. Definitely aged 40. Living alone, cycle manufacturer. born on Edgeware Rd (Edgeworth is misreading of handwriting) ... is this Arthur markham's son?, having fathered a child 8 years before winning a race. Autodidactyl (talk) 22:49, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- I think you may have the wrong Arthur Markham if the age in the 1901 census is correct. Otherwise how did a 12 year old open a cycle shop!? Found the only death reference in the index for an Arthur Markham in 1917 which seems to tally a lot better, have changed details in the article and added the references. - Well done Thaf, a 23 year old athlete in prime condition, it all adds up. Is the 1845 record visible online? Autodidactyl (talk) 23:17, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
