Delta map
[edit]Please note that while a map of the Delta is certainly appreciated and needed there should be an accurate map included. While the author who included a map of the Arkansas Delta rightfully points out that there are different definitions of the Delta, there is only one Delta as defined by the boundaries of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain. The Delta is first and foremost an identifiable geographic region defined by land. It is surveyed on an ongoing basis by the U.S. Geological Survey. It would be much appreciated if you could post a map which shows this defined land mass on the Arkansas side as it is the same standard which defines both the Mississippi and Louisiana Delta. For reference purposes please note the following map of the Delta used by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency...(ftp://ftp.epa.gov/wed/ecoregions/map/map_eco_lg.pdf)
In the end, it is my opinion that the current map used only adds to the confusion because it assumes there is a Delta and a "Delta Lite" There is no reason to have competing or conflicting images of the Arkansas Delta when there is a definitive way to characterize it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmmyjam (talk • contribs) 00:05, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- Do you have any suggestions for how to make the map you describe? I am willing to do it if you know of any source data that is freely available. I think the current map is better than nothing because it gives the reader a general idea about where you can find Delta culture, which I used the Willard B Gatewood and Jeannie Whayne The Arkansas Delta: A Land of Paradox reference to determine which counties to color. Brandonrush, I found a map which is used by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to define areas of the state based on info provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (http://www.agfc.com/resources/publications/watchable_wildlife_guide.pdf). It includes an accurate map of the Arkansas Delta. These are the most accurate maps published on geographic regions of the entire state. If I could include the image in this response I would be wikipedia is not set up to provide such an insertion in the "talk" section. Hope this helps and thanks for your continued work to accurately tell the story of Arkansas on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmmyjam (talk • contribs) 17:07, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
