2012 Champ is not Tarou Asou
I have reverted the name of the 2012 World Champion to "hanzack". It is confusing to give the name of a former prime minister of Japan when there is no reason to believe that this is the real name of Arimaa player in question. It is one thing to respect the anonymity of the World Champion, and quite another to drag an innocent bystander into the mix. Fritzlein (talk) 23:18, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Equation in Section "Computer Performance"
In my optionion, for the casual reader we should explain the displayed equatio illustrating the branching factor more clearly. Currently it appears to have fallen out of the sky and should be embedded better. Christian Brech (talk) 00:22, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Request to archive old talk page topics
Hi all. I'd like to archive the old talk page topics. This can be done in an automated way. (Instructions) It says in the guidelines that you should make sure there is consensus before doing this. Moving most of the computer stuff to a new page
I refactored this page by moving the stuff about artificial intelligence to a newly created page. It seems like most of the arguments on this talk page are related to those sections, and if there are going to be arguments I'd rather they be less visible. Also I believe that the main focus of this page should be on the rules of the game and why humans would want to play it, not why humans would want to write a computer program to play it. "Move," "successfully move," and "dislodge"
Hi Fritz. Thanks for your recent edits! I really didn't like the way I worded the immobilization goal condition, but I figured: just put it down and someone else will fix it. :)
- Dislodging: The problem with "dislodge" is that it doesn't cover the case of suicide, but eventually I decided: screw it, the introduction has to be SHORT, the sentence is factually correct as is, and this is not worth worrying about.
Just to explain my reasoning: I actually like saying that a player can "move" or "step" enemy pieces. Where you would say "dislodge" I would say "push or pull." To me, the word "dislodge" emphasizes that you don't like the square the piece is currently sitting on, whereas "push or pull" emphasizes that you're moving a piece in a certain direction for some unspecified reason. For example, if I'm pushing a piece onto f6 to frame it, I think the connotations of "push" are more useful than the connotations of "dislodge." I moved it to f6 because I wanted it to be on f6, not because I didn't want it to be on the square that it used to be on. - Successfully move vs. move: To me, "move" is sometimes synonymous with "step" and sometimes with "turn" but never with the movement of a piece over more than one turn. I could say "he wants to move his camel over to the east wing" regardless of how many turns that would take. Hence "successfully move." I'm currently working on a version of the rules that is both readable and absolutely legalistically precise. I hope we can come back to this at some point.
- to the eighth row: You didn't comment on this, but I worry that there are diagrams that show the rows marked from one to eight, and what if someone thinks that Silver and Gold are both trying to get a rabbit to the same row?

Mobile version of page creates errors in Diagram 1 and 2
If you look at the mobile version of the page, whether using a desktop or mobile device, the pieces are displayed as being one row lower than they actually are (it's obvious because some of them are right off of the board, and also you can compare to the correct images on the non-mobile page.

- Confirmed on Chrome and Firefox for Android. I think the issue is with Wikipedia's mobile version, as it doesn't happen when I render the regular page, or Arimaa's own wiki instance.

- I fixed this by overriding the Mobile website's CSS, which added margins to all tables. I also moved the pieces in the diagram 1 pixel up, so they won't bleed too much outside of the border. salty-horse (talk) 18:25, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
