4-inch guns : shields or not ?
[edit]The armaments section states the 4-inch guns did not have shields, but quotes no reference. Refer to the following photo from the Imperial War Museum : The IWM caption states HMS Aurora is the ship on the left. It has what looks about the size of a 4-inch gun on a LA mount behind what looks like an open-backed shield. ?? Anybody knows what the answer is ? Rod. Rcbutcher (talk) 12:28, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've found out that the shields around the 4-inch guns were open at the back and bottom, and were hence referred to as open mounts. Rcbutcher (talk) 22:04, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
