AREK
[edit]Does anyone have the film? My class watched it as part of Religious Studies and are to see Arek visit in November. From what I remember, he:
- was sent to a work camp as a replacement for his father and oldest brother, who escaped before being sent;
- worked with burying the bodies of those killed in the Gas vans (it should also be noted that these Jews were buried beneath a Cross);
- was moved to the Kitchens (he quotes that this saved his life);
- was sent out of a work camp back home for being too small to do work;
- fell in love with a girl at an orphanage in a Ghetto, who was gassed upon arrival with him at Auschwitz;
- jumped to the "Healthy" people line whilst the SS officers were dealing with a healthy woman who would not give up her baby.
