This article is a little too general

[edit]

It's more a description of millipedes in general than this species in particular. -64.163.134.194 (talk) 17:36, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. I attempted an edit but in the process discovered that most of the text here actually relevant to A. gigas was lifted almost directly from the About.com article with the barest of citation: linking to said article without explaining that the text was copied. No, changing a preposition to a period and a space is not rewriting. I abandoned the edit with the hope that somebody can help me out, mainly in determining what's true and relevant. After perusing the sources, I pretty much reduced the article to a stub. Sorry about that, but most of the information didn't seem particularly pertinent. The pet information was slightly more useful than the general stuff about millipedes, but it turned out to refer to various large millipedes, not necessarily A. gigas, so I removed it and changed the reference to a normal external link. I think that unless some significant information on A. gigas and A. gigas only can be brought in without lifting it directly from another article, this will simply have to remain stubby. Amashongololo???

[edit]

Regrettably I am no Zulu speaker, but as far as I know amashongololo simply means "the millipedes" or something similar. It is not specific to the giant millipedes of that region. I call the source in question. Unless someone has any objections, I will remove that claim next time I pass, unless someone else beats me to it. That photo needs something else in it so we get a sense of scale. https://www.google.com/search?q=largest+millipede&tbm=isch Jidanni (talk) 02:14, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and the photos that are presently shown are of millipedes from Namibia and The Drakensberg where A. gigas almost certainly does not occur. W Uys (talk) 13:17, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
