La Leyre / L'Eyre
[edit]Excuse me to insist, but the name of the river that runs through the "Forêt de Landes" and has its mouth in the "Bassin d'Arcachon" is REALLY named "La Leyre" and not "L'Eyre". Just have a look on any good map. Your confusion may come from the fact that the river name changes at its delta shaped mouth. As well the river is "La Leyre" as its mouth is "le delta de l'Eyre". In spring and summer seasons, some enjoy canoeing on the river between the villages of Salles and Le Teich. The tourist office proposes "des descentes de la Leyre" (in French) on hired canoes.

- OK, since you insist, i think i'll leave it alone now. You sound like you know the area much better than i. However, i remain in favor of calling it the Eyre, since the article on it in fr: is fr:Eyre (fleuve) wihout the L (although it goes on explaining the two names in the intro; and go read its associated talk page. Please read those). So apparently both names are valid. But i would like to make a few points here: First, what matters here is what it is called in English, regardless of whether it is on a foreign territory, inhabited by people with a foreign tongue. A few examples: Bay of Biscay (le Golfe de Gascogne), Brittany (La Bretagne), French Riviera (La Côte d'Azur); fr:La Nouvelle-Orléans (New Orleans), fr:Londres (London). So in the end, whatever can be sourced *best* wins. You did provide one (although a .com site instead of a .fr, .gov.fr (if there is such a thing), or a .org, or .net; excuse my disdain), but not a source in English. I looked in a huge (hardback) old atlas here in the United States and it was printed the Eyre. Third, what about this "Delta de L'Eyre", and not "Delta de La Leyre"? Confusing, isn't it? Finally, if you are going to get in edit disputes here, i recommend that you create and use a login, such as User:R.Lehimas or whatever you prefer it to be, so that, in the event a third party has to be called upon for arbitration, s/he can know a little more about who's talking, as contrasts with nameless contributions scattered with different IP addresses, which may not win the referee's favour. Apparently, what's written in here matters to you, so i suggest you join the family. --Jerome Potts 03:20, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
