"Controversial circumstances"

[edit]

Please could someone elaborate on this. The mention in the opening paragraph doesn't seem to be followed up in the section on her sinking. Why was it controversial? What are the various views? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.148.42.24 (talk) 23:23, 12 March 2013 (UTC) There is an account about the controversy in the chapter entitled 'Arandora Star' of Alistair Maclean's book 'The Lonely Sea'. Briefly, it states that many of the deaths were avoidable had there be enough lifeboats (like the Titanic)/lifejackets, and many were also due to the barbed wire blocking access to the lifeboats. Also, afterwards there was a media outcry accusing the POW's and internees of responsibility for the deaths by their indiscipline, an accusation which was totally unjustified.[reply]

Conflicting Information

[edit]

'Cruising Ships' by W.H Mitchell and L.A. Sawyer states that she was launched on 4 January 1927; her 1929 refit was at the Fairfield Yard, Govan; and her passenger accommodation after her 1934 refit was 375. 98.209.165.23 (talk) 01:19, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Red or Blue ensign?

[edit]

Wich flag was the ship flying? I'm not so sure was the Red Ensign, here [1] there are some postcards, in one of them is depicted while flying the Blue ensign. Suggestions? --Nicola Romani (talk) 08:59, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
