Burmese name

[edit]

@WinZawOo.WZO: Hello! I noticed that you changed the Burmese name of Arakan Army (Kachin State) to "ရက္ခိုင့်တပ်တော်" from "ရက္ခိုင့်တပ်မတော်". The Arakan Army refered themself as "ရက္ခိုင့်တပ်မတော်" in recent announcement according to their website on 22 March 2019. Would you please describe the reason of your changes? Thanks. ≥20,000 or ~7,000–8,000 troops?

[edit]

@Phyo WP: It appears that 210.14.96.0/20 range insisted on putting higher than normal numbers (Over 20,000). How we should have to do about this? Either accept the IP range's insistence, or stick to what we have. I'm not sure. SMB99thx my edits 07:55, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

China

[edit]

In the infobox, China is listed as an ally. While this does seem likely, the statement is unsourced and I can't find a reliable source stating this - only that Myanmar accuses China of support for the AA. I think it's a serious claim that shouldn't be made without proper sourcing, so if anyone can find a source for it that would be very helpful. Lennart97 (talk) 13:14, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Arakan Army (Kachin State)Arakan Army – Based on the page history of Arakan Army (which is currently a disambiguation page), this is clearly a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. I think moving this to the proper location could stop further vandalism on that disambiguation page. SMB99thx my edits! 13:56, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Moved per WP:NAMECHANGE; as argued, reliable sources have reverted to using "Arakan Army" (non-admin closure) Quadrantal (talk) 20:25, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Arakha ArmyArakan Army – AA still calls itself Arakan Army in [its English website] Chirua (talk) 07:07, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support - News articles that came out around the time of the name change don't reflect the original Arakanese/Burmese announcement (i.e. AA announced that they were changing from ရက္ခိုင့်တပ်တော် (Rakhain Tatdaw) to အရက္ခတပ်တော် (Arakha Tatdaw). The original name of Arakan Army was already a romanisation of the latter name. However, reliable sources proceeded to report it was a change from Arakan Army to Arakha Army in English language publications. (e.g. [2]). However, now the same sources have reverted to using Arakan Army (Examples: Irrawaddy, Myanmar Now, The Diplomat, Narinjara). EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 17:47, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Naming

[edit]

Especially given the page move, this article likely needs some prose explaining the details of the English and Rakhine names and name change. When processing the move, I mostly just replaced "Arakha" with "Arakan" where appropriate; an editor more knowledgeable about the subject may need to explain the nuances.
