Purpose of this article

[edit]

To concisely and accurately explain what Arabic Numerals are and what are their origin.--Vertaloni 04:36, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This is already covered at Hindu-Arabic numerals. Unless you are using some other definition of Arabic numerals, which it is obvious you are not from the content you are posting here. Peyna 05:14, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like an explanation from both sides of why this article should be the way they want it before unprotecting, please. NSLE (T+C+CVU) 05:17, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
See Talk:Hindu-Arabic numerals. Peyna 05:18, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't mind, could you point me to the exact section(s) of that page? NSLE (T+C+CVU) 05:20, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion starts somewhere around the heading titled "Origins of the symbols" and goes on from there. Peyna 05:21, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Arabic numerals was moved to Hindu-Arabic numerals per consensus discussion about changing the name. User:Vertaloni doesn't like the content at Hindu-Arabic numerals and so he wants to recreate the content he was adding the prior article at Arabic numerals here instead. He does not engage in any meaningful discussion and just consistently reverts. It was decided through consensus that Hindu-Arabic numerals would be about the numeral symbols; Hindu-Arabic numeral system would be about the numeral system; and History of the Hindu-Arabic numeral system would be about the history. Peyna 05:18, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Consensus seems clear. Redirecting. Report any further reversion to article status at WP:AIV, please. Vertaloni, please respect consensus. NSLE (T+C+CVU) 05:26, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
There is no consensus on this issue
For the past several weeks a group of editors have taken it upon themselves to wipe out the Arabic Numerals page using every tactic they could come up with , slicing bits and pieces of the article ,creating other pages, redirecting, blanking out discussions on the talk page, inserting gibberish . Their arguments makes no sense , and the sources they quote are not credible. Witness what Peyna is saying , 2 or 3 editors have decided that their little consensus grants them the right to make major changes to the article, when in fact when other wikipedia editors weighed in on the matter they did not support those changes. If you try to understand what is going on you will have to look over so many pages and discussions that you will probably wind up as confused as those editors. --Vertaloni 05:27, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
If I may suggest, one of you open a request for comment about this article, so we can get the whole community's take? In the meantime, leave the redirect. NSLE (T+C+CVU) 05:30, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's been at RfC for quite awhile (I updated it, but it was there for a few weeks prior). I think it might be because it is listed under mathematics; got a better suggestion for a category that might get wider reviews? Peyna 05:31, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's a redirect. Put it up on WP:RFD if you want it deleted. NSLE (T+C+CVU) 05:59, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just to note, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arabic Numerals was closed as speedy keep/redirect on December 15. NSLE (T+C+CVU) 06:09, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
