[edit]

I know people don't really read the talk pages on articles this obscure and non-controversial. But I thought I'd share my thoughts about this so that maybe someone will come along (years from now...) and help me figure out a solution.

The problem is that these WWF ecoregions aren't really that notable. I don't know any scientist in the field who uses them. My colleagues in the southeastern United States use the EPA ecoregioins, or we just talk about physiographic provinces. What we need is a great article on the Appalachian Plateaus, not this. I'm not even sure what this region is supposed to be. The WWF website (used as a source) says this ecoregion extends into western North Carolina, which of course is the heart of the Appalachian-Blue Ridge forests. No practicing ecologist that I'm aware of would muddle these two together.

So due to this confusion, we have spill-overs from the Appalachian-Blue Ridge forests on this page, such as mentions of spruce-fir forest. I don't want to spend much effort on this article, because I think its flawed from its very name and premise. The ecoregion of the Appalachian Plateau is notable, and deserve their own page. But that page shouldn't be defined by the non-notable WWF conception of this region.Masebrock (talk) 09:14, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mixed

[edit]

Perhaps one of the issues referenced by Masebrock is that this article does not tell us what is meant by "MIXED" mesophytic. It probably should also define the word "mesophytic" rather than just link to another article. After all if its an important enough term to be used in the title, you shouldn't have to turn elsewhere to determine what it means.TwelveGreat (talk) 14:23, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
