role in neurobiological research

Aplysia is also used in researching the neurobiology of learning because
- easy to identify individual neurons in vivo
- easy to create reduced preparations
- simple neural circuitry, particularly in the tail-siphon-gill circuit (only ~2000 neurons overall)
- easy to rear
