Could somebody explain what this Corp. does or did? And shouldn't this article be called something like 'List of Aon Corp. employees that were lost in the 9/11 attacks'? branko

I think it should be moved to sep11. -phma

This is perfectly verifiable and factual information. The employees getting killed is the most famous thing about Aon. --The Cunctator 14:11, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Aon does alot of customer serivce out-sourceing from what I know. I work for Aon in Golden, CO as a CSR; Customer service for extened service plans. There are many clients of whom we take calls for, however the most common are Whirlpool & Gutair Center. Aon also offers home insurence and bussiness insurance. Boreing stuff mostly. Cleaned it up some. There's now a better explanation of what the company does, plus I fixed the introductory history paragraph.

I also work in the Golden office. Aon is basically a large insurance corporation. Our office here in Golden is mostly Warranty entitlement, but we also have home warrantys which are administered from the Chicago office. We insure movies and cars and all sorts of cool stuff.

Founding

Aon was not founded by W. Clement Stone. It was founded by Patrick Ryan in the 1960s. W. Clement Stone founded Combined Insurance which merged with AON in the 80s. Patrick Ryan was CEO of AON for years until just last year.

Aon was NOT founded by Patrick Ryan. On the other hand, Ryan Associates (an insurance brokerage firm) was founded by Patrick Ryan. CICA (Combined Insurance Company of America) was founded by Clement Stone (A Debit Insurance Company) . CICA and RYAN Associates did merge in the Early 80's and at that time it was still calles Combined (CICA). In 1986-1987 the New Name Aon (Gaelic - meaning oneness) was submitted to the stockholders for a vote and was approved. Patrick Ryan was then responsible for the many acquisitions of smaller insurance brokers that resulted in Aon's current position as the number 2 Insurance Broker in the World. CICA still exists as a division of Aon and is sometimes referred to as the "cash cow" within Aon that funded much of Pat Ryan's Insurance Brokerage Acquisitions. -Aeroguy39 04:34, 18 May 2007

If this is correct add this information to the article and cite it. -Barkeep 16:04, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I would if the Aon Corp page would become unlocked. --Aeroguy39 23:52, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
It was blocked to unestablished users last week due to a vandal. The block should expire sometime toward the end of this week. -Barkeep 13:18, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Mention of logo appearning in the Matrix

Would there be any issue if I removed this? This adds nothing of value to the article and Aon has buildings throughout the world, so their logo has appeared in countless movies and TV shows. 168.140.181.4 07:39, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Change of WikiProject Companies parameters

Currently this article is categorized as a 'stub-mid' article in terms of classification and importance with respect to WikiProject Comapanies. I have changed this categorization to 'start-high', with an explanation below:

  • Class: upgrade from 'stub' to 'start' — the article can be described as having "a meaningful amount of good content, but it is still weak in many areas".
  • Importance: upgrade from 'mid' to 'high' — the article qualifies as being "very well known and extremely influential on a national level" based on the passage in the article that states: "Aon is the world's 2nd largest insurance brokerage, and largest reinsurance brokerage. It is also the top captive insurance company manager, and the third largest employee benefits consultant."

Tone

Do the following statements really belong in an encyclopedia article?

  • The young Stone devoured the optimistic messages of the 19th-century Horatio Alger novels, which detailed the successes of plucky, enterprising heroes.
  • Ryan's less-personal management style differed radically from Stone's rah-rah boosterism

I removed these subjective and unreferenced comments. As a friendly suggestion, next time feel free to BE BOLD. Barkeep Chat | $ 15:00, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

No Affiliation

Posting to the discussion section to get advice on entering this information into the AON article page. In reference to the mention of Alexander & Alexander byout in the History section: In 1999, Cary Alexander formed Alexander & Alexander, Inc. in Kentucky. This commercial trucking insurance agency has no affiliation or history with the Alexander & Alexander purchased by AON in 1997. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aatruckins (talkcontribs) 17:02, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
