[edit]Canovas was arguably the most important politician of Spain in the late nineteenth century. I have therefore rewritten and expanded this entry which was really just a stub/translation from the Spanish entry (which is itself astonishingly cursory and largely a copyvio). Much more attention should be paid to the post 1885 policies of Canovas, particularly since they led quite directly to the Spanish American War, Cuban independence, etc etc.... [edit]The paragraph about Canovas' torturing people was written by a proponent of Anarchism. I doubt it is trustworthy, and it is very damaging to the reputation of a great man. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Garyrela1 (talk • contribs) 21:51, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
