Etext
[edit]Are we treating "Etext.org" as a reliable source? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 00:09, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I know this discussion is old, but given that those etext links lead to primary sources, the references are questionable no matter whether etext itself is reliable or not, because primary sources should be avoided most of the time according to Wikipedia guidelines. Family ties
[edit]Any reliable sources for this statement: "Chaitkin's father was Jacob Chaitkin, who was the legal cousel and strategist for the boycott against Nazi Germany carried on by the American Jewish Congress in the 1930s."? There definitely was a Jacob Chaitkin who did legal work on the boycott for the AJC, but I can't see any sources for the family connection, other than those in the article that point to sources that include the elder Chaitkin's name amidst characterizations of the boycott derived from a Larouchian weltanschauung that ain't necessarily so. Boodlesthecat (talk) 21:33, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- Chaitkin says so himself in his externally linked autobiographical statement [1]. The statement is interesting and I think it's admissable as a source under WP:SELFPUB. --Terrawatt (talk) 22:09, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- Jacob Chaitkin may be sufficiently notable for an article of his own (I'd have to do more research to decide that) but we should keep material about him in this article to a minumimum. As for the relationship between Jacob and Anton, I can't find any source that is obviously independent of Anton which mentions it. Jacob's obit in the NY Times just mentions unnamed children. However I think it is safe to assume that Anton correctly identifies his own father. Biographical information about Jacob sourced from Anton that makes contentious assertions may be questionable, though some can be checked in reliable sources. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 22:17, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
