Serious Help Needed
[edit]This article is almost complete random. We need someone who knows a little bit about the Antipater of Sidon and a lot about the English language to fix it.
contradictory dates
[edit]The article places him in the "second half of the 1st century BC", but then also attributes to him a poem composed in 140 BC (i.e. in the mid 2nd century BC). Which of these is wrong? --Delirium (talk) 18:57, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- 15 years later and no one has sorted this out properly! If the Cicero reference is correct about him being a contemporary of Crassus then that would be in the 1st century BCE. BobBadg (talk) 20:35, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- The cited Cicero reference doesn't mention Crassus at all as far as I can see. Brill's New Pauly says that he "lived from the 2nd to 1st cents. BC", and mentions a poem about the destruction of Corinth in 146 BC (though it does not say that they poem was composed soon after the event). I have removed the reference to Crassus - I tried to look back through the article history to find if there was ever some other reason to mention him, but he was introduced with reference to the Cicero passage which does not seem to mention him so I think it must be an error.
