Anti-Middle Eastern sentiment exists.
[edit]In Europe, for example, an individual claiming origin from the Middle East region would be looked down upon. This led to many Middle Eastern Christian or Muslim alike individuals identifying as Italians or Greeks. The hatred against Jews could also be considered some form of anti-Middle Eastern sentiment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kapartem (talk • contribs) 07:39, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
No such thing
[edit]There is no such thing as a general "anti Middle Eastern sentiment". Either it is directed at Arabs or other specific groups, but not "Middle Easterners" as a whole (whatever that is). This article is an invention, and should be merged or deleted. FunkMonk (talk) 09:41, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Are you seriously trying to claim racism against people of Middle Eastern background or origin does not exist? The FBI disagrees with you. The Scythian 22:11, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with the first comment. There is no homogeneity and denoting "Middle Eastern people" is absurd. Someone can hate Israelis, for example, and love Arabs - or vice-versa. Personally I suspect that the use of Middle Eastern here is a euphemism for "Arab". —Brigade Piron (talk) 07:14, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
I agree with FunkMonk and I'll add that much of this article is off-topic. The KKK didn't target Jews on account of "anti-Middle Eastern sentiment", nor did the Nazis. There is nothing here that isn't better covered in Antisemitism and Anti-Arabism. Zerotalk 10:39, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- I'd say there is such a thing about racism against people of Middle Eastern appearance - the part about the Cronulla riots is a good example. But much of this article seems to stray from the topic to be about antisemitism in general, when plainly not all Jews are Middle Eastern and not all Middle Easterners are Jews. It should be rewritten to focus more tightly on the topic, or else merged into Antisemitism in the United States. Robofish (talk) 21:08, 25 January 2020 (UTC)

Should this be merged to Anti-Arabism?
[edit]I saw this discussion to delete: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Anti-Middle_Eastern_sentiment_(2nd_nomination). But maybe a merging would be better? Anti–Middle Eastern racism has a long history in the United States, although it had generally been limited to Jews until recent decades
[edit]I think the "no such thing" is correct. Per my header, taken from the article: "Anti–Middle Eastern racism has a long history in the United States, although it had generally been limited to Jews until recent decades..." which is hopelessly wrong: there may well have been a history of anti-jewishness but that has nothing to do with anti-middle-eastism William M. Connolley (talk) 13:42, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- Agreed, it is rubbish to describe American antisemitism as a form of anti-middle east sentiment. Hardly any of it derives from the middle east origin of Judaism. I deleted one especially irrelevant paragraph and will delete more soon. Zerotalk 23:53, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- Incidentally, the logic "Jews came from the middle east, therefore antisemitism is a form of anti-middle east sentiment" is a fine example of WP:SYNTH unless a reliable source makes that claim. Zerotalk 23:57, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
