Tommy or Thomas?

[edit]

Was his birth name Thomas Knighton or Tommy Knighton? Below is just a link to the Argentinian newspaper Crónica which said his name was Tommy Knighton.

I would think Thomas.

Below at Discogs there's a Tommy Knighton page here which is connected to releases for Anthony Swete and Knight 'En Day which is aka Anthony Swete. And there's an Annie Knighton which is connected to three releases that involve Anthony Swete (aka Tommy Knighton). To confuse things a bit more, fellow PPX recording artist Curtis Knight is involved with the Roller Disco Dip album that Swete appears on. At first I thought his name was shortened from Knighton, but his birth name is apparently Mont Curtis McNear.

Further to the above, Discogs has Roller Disco Dip has two songs, "Disco Dating" and "Skating On My Birthday" credited to Ann Knight*, Ed Dantes, Tommy Knight*. Ann Knight as I previously mentioned is Annie Knighton, Ed Dantes is Ed Chalpin and Tommy Knight is allegedly Anthony Swete. credits here.

OK here is something to look at. The thats allrite mama blogspot has a section that says "Tommy Knight was certainly one of the artists who recorded under aliases in the Ed Chalpin's Studio 76 in New-York. One of these aliases was Slim Pikins." Here's slim Pikins doing his version of the Archie Bell & the Drells classic, "Tighten Up". Here - Slim Pikins "Tighten Up" Vogue. And the Slim Pikins page at Discogs.

Could this Tommy Knighton be Anthony Swete?

[edit]
  • Here's a C&P from an edit I made: Swete started out in 1958 as a 15-year-old in a night club in America's South. He filled in for the singer who was unwell that day. In the beginning he had a vagabond kind of lifestyle and earnt little money. He also taught himself to play piano. At some stage he met a girl on the music scene and they were married. This curtailed his wandering lifestyle and he headed to the music scene in New York in pursuit of success.

OK, so being 15 in 1958 would put his birth year as 1942 or 1943. The below Legacy page has an entry for a Tommie W. Knighton, 1942 - 2017

Translated from Spanish into English is below,

  • It is the first time that Anthony Swete (Antonio Dulche) - his real man is Tommy Wesley Knighton - comes to Buenos Aries. The black singer is the creator of "Judy in disguise" and "Hold me tight.
