Criminal accusations against his son
[edit]Please take some time to read WP:BLPCRIME (especially the first sentence) and WP:BLPNAME (specifically the 2nd paragraph) before you read the rest of this section. I'll wait.
Done? Good. The information being added regarding his son Joseph is 1) irrelevant to an encyclopedic understanding of Mr. Parker, and 2) there has been no conviction, and given that the son is relatively unknown, typical editorial practice is to wait until some kind of conviction is secured. Even if he had already been convicted of a crime, that information does not belong in this article, it belongs in an article about the scandal or about his son himself.
I have semi-protected the article to prevent re-insertion of the material under the authority of WP:BLPBAN. Editors who choose to edit this article, especially in relation to this particular material, should be aware that continuing to violate WP:BLP can lead to sanctions. —Darkwind (talk) 19:42, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- A police investigation into his son is notable enough to be mentioned in one sentence in his article. Given that it is huge international news, then it is not undue to involve one sentence. And it doesn't contravene any BLP rules to mention that there is a police investigation.Avaya1 (talk) 01:34, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
- If this is "huge international news", then there should be more than one RS mentioning this. Otherwise this is a BLP violation. Two kinds of pork (talk) 02:21, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
There is absolutely no suggestion that the subject of this article was in any way, shape or form involved in his son's situation. Attaching guilt by association is simply and completely right out. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 22:57, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know whether or not it is appropriate to include the rape scandal his son has been embroiled in in New Zealand in this article. But some of the diminishing comments here are disturbing. let's not downplay the fact that this has been a major on-going scandal in New Zealand, making repeat headlines in all mainstream NZ news sources for several years now. It's been discussed in the national parliament and lead to debate and inquiries about rape culture and the way rape crimes are dealt with by the New Zealand Police. His son is a prominent figure in New Zealand as a result of this. 121.73.7.84 (talk) 06:43, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Mentioning it is his son is of course notable for inclusion in the article, by every norm of Wikipedia. The majority of media attention is related to this. There is no "guilt by association" to the subject of the article, beyond this family relationship.Avaya1 (talk) 04:23, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
