Is there any reference available to confirm "the almost constant southerly wind". Personally I find this "fact" hard to believe - some more detailed weather observations or weather summary would be useful, including temperature ranges observed at South Pole (for example), or a link to such. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iceseismic (talk • contribs) 03:52, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Area
[edit]I can't get Google to tell me the area of the Antarctic Plateau.
The area according to the text of the article is 500 km radius => 0.785 million km².
The area I estimate using the map at East Antarctica is;
- 2.86 million km² above 3000 m.
- 3.43 million km² above 2800 m.
The 2800 m is cited by a few sites.
[1] says the South Pole is at 2800 m and is on the plateau.
[2] says the plateau is at 2800 m.
. . .
This makes it bigger than the Tibetan plateau;
- 2.5 million km².
