Antonio Costa vs Antonio Maria Costa
[edit]I think editors have confused the Portuguese Antonio Costa (MEP) with the Italian Antonio Maria Costa (UN). DDD DDD 08:44, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit]He is categorized as "agnostic". Is there a source to support this? Otherwise, this should be removed. --GinoBartali (talk) 08:53, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
Early Life
[edit]Costa is half Portuguese and half Indian:
This statement can be confusing. Are we talking about the country and nationality and origins of the person or the Ethnicity? Sounds like the former to me as portuguese is not an ethnicity is it? It's a nationality.
Antonio Costa's father was Goan (Portuguese) born in Goa, Antigo Estado da India which was Portuguese territory. Hence, he was a Portuguese national with Goan/ Indian EHNICITY since Goa is on the Indian sub-continent. The fact remains that he never had Indian nationality. Goans were Portuguese nationals whether in Angola, Mozambique or Portugal. Indian nationality is what citizens of the neighbouring Republic of India had after 1947. Goans were only allowed Indian nationality after December 1961 if they renounced their Portuguese nationality.
So Orlando Costa was Portuguese from Goa, one would also say Goan with Goan or Indian ethnicity.
Hence the following statements may make some sense:
Costa is half Portuguese and half Goan or
Costa is Portuguese with Goan roots or
Costa is half Portuguese and half Goan (Indian ethnicity)
Thank you, just thought I'd point out some facts 2A02:C7F:F2BF:8400:D966:DCCE:C019:F805 (talk) 09:38, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Correction: I see that Orlando Costa's parents were born in Goa, he in Maputo. 2A02:C7F:F2BF:8400:D966:DCCE:C019:F805 (talk) 09:41, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Costa can be described as being of mixed race: his father was an Indian from Goa and his mother a white southern European from Portugal.—AnnaBruta (talk) 22:36, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
