Her father, Samuel Nott, came from Bristol, England. He fought in the Civil War, including being at the surrender of Jefferson Davis. He went to Hawaii with his brother. He married Mary Ellen Andrews, and came to California in 1874. In California, he had a hardware store in San Miguel where he did tinning, and is also listed a history of California wine as a viniculturist in Los Gatos. While not critical to Anne's story, her parentage and grand-parentage was just as adventurous.
