[edit]Says that Annandale is known for its high percentage of Korean residents, but the fact is that they don't live there. It's like 6%. Koreans mostly live elsewhere in the DC area (incl. Maryland), and just like to visit Annandale's few blocks of suburban shopping area because the Korean businesses are there. The people who live in Annandale are upset about it being called "Koreatown" since basically no Koreans live there (and since the Koreans took over the local shopping. Can't go to the local grocery and haircut places etc anymore --- all the signs are in Korean and weird stuff inside. The RESIDENTS more or less HATE the "invading" Koreans, from my conversations on the street with them in recent years. I moved out of Annandale a quarter century ago, before the Koreans.
I don't think the A-Blast is the best high school newspaper in the country -- by any measure. It was a National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker finalist in 2006, but didn't actually receive the award. I think they had to concede their nomination in 2007 because of plagiarism. (That might be wrong -- if anyone knows, enlighten me.) Anyway, don't put stuff on the entry that you can't back up. I'm clarifying the A-Blast thing and deleting the meaningless bit about the administration being "no-nonsense."
"Annandale is bisected by Accotink Creek, which in Colonial times was a primary link for ocean-going ships that would load tobacco and other goods where Little River Turnpike - the Annandale's oldest road - crosses it."
I find this statement dubious at best. After all - how can an Ocean going ship fit up a creek or a stream that is rocky and at most places no more than a foot deep? I grew up on this creek - even before the lake was created - it seriously doubtful that it was used when the Potomac is so near by with the port of Alexandria. I say we strike it.
To the poster above - Yes, the local residents "hate" the invading Koreans - but they are a mostly closet racists there (if closet is the word for it). But in fact there have been Koreans in Annandale for some time. To say that there are "no koreans" living there is incorrect. There is and have been a cross section of the population that were Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. However, previously they were not the majority. Most all of locals have moved elsewhere and sold their interests to the Koreans - who have always had a presence there since the 60s and 70s. For the most part, I think the merging of Annandale High School with the previous student body from Jefferson had a lot to do with the "white flight" from Annandale to better school districts and from retirees moving to less expensive regions since the housing prices went form $25,000 (1960s) to over $550,000 (2000) for the average home. IMHO - it's fitting for the town we jokingly called "a home without a past and the town without a future". Many years later the town hasn't disappointed me. While it might be good for people not familiar with the area to have TJ defined for them as a magnet school, I think the definition for it is awkwardly placed. Could that be avoided with an appositive? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.54.213.67 (talk) 13:36, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
