It seemed to me that this page was trying to be two contradictory things:

  1. a list of all adaptations of Anna Karenina, even those that don't have articles in Wikipedia; and
  2. a disambiguation page, which properly should be concerned only with subjects that do have articles in Wikipedia.

So I split it up.

(Possibly the adaptations that do have articles could also be listed on the disambiguation page, as long it's only the ones that do have articles.) --Paul A (talk) 08:59, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

Despite the above, the contents of the two pages are so similar that I propose that Adaptations of Anna Karenina be merged into this disambiguation page. One reason is that this page is cleaner (only one blue link per line, etc.). Another is that it can include Anna Kareninas which are not adaptations, e.g. the ship mentioned at the bottom of the page. Comments please. GuillaumeTell 21:40, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This page, as you say, can include articles that are not adaptations - but it can't include adaptations that are not articles. I remain convinced that a list of all Anna Karenina adaptations, even (perhaps especially) those that don't have an article of their own, is a useful thing to have. —Paul A (talk) 00:59, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Suggestion: an Adaptations of Anna Karenina section, beneath the disambiguation, including the redlinks? When I came to came Anna Karenina (Hamilton) I found the two similar pages less unhelpful than was perhaps hoped almost-instinct 10:54, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
After sleeping on it last night, I was going to suggest that the best place for the list of adaptations would actually be in the Anna Karenina article, along the lines of the "Afterlife" sections of The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet. But now I actually have a look at the article, what do I find? A list of adaptations! That means that a whole lot of the same stuff now appears in three different places. So maybe I'll withdraw the merger proposal and put Adaptations of Anna Karenina up for WP:AfD. Further comments welcome, of course. --GuillaumeTell 17:42, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There are so many adaptations that it does not seem practical to have it under the article on the novel. On the other hand, many of them are unimportant and have of course no article on Wikipedia. I would suggest to keep it separately from disambiguation page and include a link "see also List of Adaptations" on the disambiguation page. --Rudoleska (talk) 09:13, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Plus one more thing. Many adaptations are not necessarily "Anna Karenina" (Egyptian, Hungarian, French) and it would be inappropriate to include them on Anna Karenina disambiguation page.--Rudoleska (talk) 09:16, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
To briefly summarise my view of this issue: Anna Karenina (disambiguation) and Adaptations of Anna Karenina serve two distinct purposes. One is a list of Wikipedia articles called "Anna Karenina", regardless of whether they're adaptations of the novel; the other is a list of adaptations of the novel, regardless of whether they have Wikipedia articles. To merge them would be unhelpful. —Paul A (talk) 00:43, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose. Each page serves its own distinct purpose as with all other widely adapted works or subjects/names. The dab page should actually be only links with Wikipedia articles; the adaptations page should be very inclusive and include all media and also include notable adaptations that do not yet have Wikipedia articles.
