Removal of trivia

I've removed a piece of trivia here, a couple of times. Here's why. Firstly, WP:TRIVIA - if the information was relevant to Davis, we could include it in the article and we wouldn't need to create a trivia section for it. If it's not important enough to find a place in the article, why would we need it in an encyclopedic entry for an actress? Secondly, there is no source. The virginity of the character Alice Nelson is very unlikely to have ever been discussed on a family show like The Brady Bunch. Therefore where does the claim come from? Would the producers of Jeopardy use something like this as a question without a solid reference to fall back on? It seems unlikely to me. In any case, the sourcing is not the only issue, so even if a reliable source could be found, it would still be trivial. This is why I've removed it. Rather than continuing to restore it without comment, if the person who keeps adding it could at least comment here as to why it should be included, perhaps you have a reason that I haven't thought of. Ah no, changing it from "Who was Alice Nelson?" (which would have been the correct response, if it actually happened) to "Who was Ann B. Davis?" does not make it "relevant" to Davis. In fact, it makes it worse because now you are also possibly misquoting what was said and that is never never never acceptable. There's no source, and you don't seem to know what was actually said on the show. Thank you. So far this information has been presented in three different forms - at least two of them must be incorrect, but who knows which one? This is even before the issue of relevance/triviality is addressed. This started as Ann B. Davis is a virgin, then was changed to the Jeopardy thing with "Who is Alice Nelson?" as the answer, then it was changed again to "Who is Ann B. Davis?". In all good faith, I've tried to find a cite, but I can't. As for its relevance .... does it tell us anything about Ann B. Davis? Maybe in the Alice Nelson article (where the identical paragraph has also been inserted) it may have relevance, and I don't object to it being there, but not in the article about the actress. No problem, I noticed that it was already discussed here, so without some sort of agreement, it's not really supposed to be there. To be honest, somewhere in the cobwebs of my memory, I kind of remember hearing something along those lines. But it was so long ago, I don't know if it was in reference to her as a person, or the character she played on Brady Bunch. I guess I just chalked it up to some sort of Urban Legend, and never really thought much more about it. To be honest, I don't see that it matters much anyway (other than perhaps to her, or some Brady Bunch triva buffs. I remember that the character of Alice dated a guy named Sam, but in the days that the show aired, those kind of subjects weren't really covered much on TV, at least not in a prime time sit-com. And I remember Sam from Gomer Pyle and an episode of Dick Van Dyke, but there I go completely off topic again.

(outdent) The real problem is that the person or persons who have continued to return this bit of fluff, which is not about Ann B. Davis, but a character on a television show, does it each time from a different IP number, using deceptive edit summaries copied from other edits. And yet, it is clear it is by either a single editor or more than one working together. More traceroutes go back to Minnesota than any other location. I didn't know that this problem has been going on since back in 2009. It's picked up again in the last few days. I'm going to request either indefinite semi-protection or pending changes protection. The statement is not just unsourced, it's clearly vandalism--Jeopardy simply did not and would not ask a question like this. Well, the problem is that you can't unless you can provide sources that prove the actual information. That is, Wikipedia doesn't accept people's word about facts, but, rather, reports those facts that are available in reliable sources. The problem is that we have no way to verify someone's identity, and, even if we did, that wouldn't guarantee the accuracy of the information that they provide. However, if you do know her personally, perhaps you know of resources about her that we've overlooked (books, older newspaper articles, etc.) that might have some other information that we could add. First, a technical note: after you make a note on any talk page, add four tildas (~~~~). This will sign and date your posts (in your case, just with your IP address). It makes it easier to track conversations.

Regarding the details...you don't need to actually scan the newspapers and magazines--just giving us full coverage information is probably enough. If the claims you want to add contradict other sources, or if they seem especially outlandish, then we might ask for a scan, but it depends on what you say. You can start just telling us the information you think should be added along with the publication details (so, title of article, title of publication, date, and author if there is one). As for the Emmy's, that won't actually help, as we have no way to verify the accuracy of your photo, or even to confirm that the Emmy's are, in fact, hers. It's not that you have to pass a "judicial board", it's that Wikipedia is supposed to require that all information (especially that about living people) be verified in reliable sources. Following up on what Monty845 says, there's some good information in WP:AUTOGRAPH; while that isn't actually policy yet, it does point out the complex issues involved in using copyright, both with regards to potential BLP problems and with regards to potential copyright issues. Since there doesn't seem to be any particular benefit to adding this signature to this article, since we have no clear evidence that it is what it claims to be, and since there may be other concerns, I'm going to say that this shouldn't be added. From Ann Davis to Ellen DeGeneres

Why the odd refusal here to talk about the two famous characters she played? I cannot speculate about the actress herself, only her roles. In 2014 is it really necessary to be so shy about praising her as a very rare positive representation of androgyny, forty years before it was safe? The character she played was so frank and happy about being who she was, she became a beloved figure, even back then in the Dark Ages of homophobia. Oh, heck, I will speculate about the actress. Ann B. Davis seemed to be so happy being herself, she accepted herself so completely, that it was impossible to dislike her. America loved her. This was decades before Ellen DeGeneres dared to come out of the closet. In many ways DeGeneres has taken on the role in Pop culture that Ann B. I don't know for sure. I think it has to do with either: (1) a lot of vandalism; or (2) editors placing unsourced controversial material repeatedly. The page is getting a lot of attention and traffic since Davis recently died. Two controversies seem to be: (1) whether or not she was a virgin; and (2) whether or not she was a lesbian. It strikes me that this is a curious statement, as there is no reference to her being a nun, or a member of an Episcopalian religious order of any sort.
