Merge ANK1 into thispage

[edit]

ANK1 should be merged into Ankyrin - while Ankyrin is the protein and ANK1 one of the genes that produce it, that page doesn't talk so much about the gene as about the protein. So it's unclear why both should exist.

While the conflict seems clear to me, i lack sufficient knowledge about the subject to perform the merge myself. -- Duesentrieb-formerly-Gearloose (?!) 21:44, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. The Ankyrin article concerns both the family of gene and the proteins encoded by this family of gene. The ANK1, ANK2, and ANK3 articles deal with the individual family members. This merger proposal is equivalent to proposing that the California article be merged into the United States. Cheers. Boghog2 (talk) 22:14, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Except that there's actually a lot to say about California. Granularity of pages always depends on the amount and detail available on the individual subjects.
Anyway, I don't have strong feelings about this, and I found that genes and proteins are treated independently in several cases. However, the content just struck me as redundant - compare for instance the first paragraph of the "Function" section of ANK1, ANK2 and ANK3. -- Duesentrieb-formerly-Gearloose (?!) 08:21, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose as well, and shall remove the merge tag. Xasodfuih (talk) 01:21, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
