Odoodemimazininii
[edit]Instead of a large photograph of each of the doodem representatives, it might be wise to show the typical odoodemimazininii used on contemporary and past doodem markers on grave sites as well as the treaty signatories' odoodemimazininii. CJLippert 15:47, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Good call, do you know if there are any on wiki? I still don't really understand the fair use stuff, so I tend to avoid it entirely.

Kinship
[edit]I have just added a link to Rand's site that serves as an intro to kinship terms with how they relate to doodem. Since "a picture's worth a thousand words" in the next several weeks, I'll put together a graphic in the manner of the kinship system charts based on Rand's graphics. Give me a nudge if nothing seems to be happening by mid-February. CJLippert 23:54, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Disambiguation questions
[edit]Sparrowhawk
[edit]In the section Anishinaabe_clan_system#Baswenaazhi_group, the term sparrowhawk is included. This link leads to a disambiguation page. Could some knowledgeable person edit this link so it leads to a proper article? Thanks. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 15:39, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Did the dab help or would you like to have sparrowhawk narrowed down even more? CJLippert 20:02, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for disambiguating the term. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:10, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Notable clans section
[edit]I don't think the section is necessary, but the infomation could go with Clan totems and illustrated. I started the Moose/Marten group and will work at it.Leo1410 (talk) 22:03, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. CJLippert (talk) 14:27, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Waabizheshi misinformation
[edit]It is patently false that the "Waabizheshi clan is also used to denote a form of adoption, i.e., a non-native father and Ojibwe mother." This is a lie that is being spread by several people falsely representing themselves as Ojibwe in order to swindle people out of their money. You are born into a clan and must have a legitimate blood connection. There is no clan for "adopted" people. The practice if virtually unheard of among the Ojibwe. There is no ceremony of process in any Ojibwe Nation, tribe or band to give non-Indians a clan. The only clan they would be given is the "snipe clan" and this is derogatory. I believe the rumor was started by an individual who was hanging around an Ojibwe language board trying to pick up clues about the Ojibwe so he could produce another literary fraud and cash in on the popularity of American Indian literature.

Thanks
[edit]The article as it stands today is well done and helpful. Good balance with detail and clarity. The language is well-represented too. A word of thanks to its editors for all the care you've taken. Twang (talk) 17:33, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Squirrel Clan?
[edit]William Commanda was Squirrel Dodem right? William Commanda was from Kitigan Zibi (Algonquin). So is the Squirrel clan also Algonquin? --Anaccuratesource (talk) 03:23, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Informative Article but slightly confusing
[edit]I really enjoyed evaluating this article but some of the content is not coherent, e.g. The origins of the Clans where giving to the Getay-Anishinawbeg after the cleansing of the Earth by water. As the memory of people had been wiped clean. Anishinaabe Toodaims: is the social fabric context for politics, kinship, and identity of the Anishinawbeg peoples. There seems to be multiple spellings for possibly the same word? ````JMatthews77JMatthews77 (talk) 03:27, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
